     In 2000 Russell County started the process of rural 911 addressing, the process has taken over 7 years to complete.  As of  September 5, 2007, Verizon and the postal service finally released Russell County to become enhanced  911.  Enhanced 911 gives every house in the county an assigned house number.  By assigning house number it makes it easier for dispatcher to locate a residents quicker and provide better direction to the resident.  Currently there is over 25,000 addresses in Russell County.  As of January 2008 the county and a 100% rate with the phone company meaning that ever phone number in the county had physical E911 address. 

     At the present time Russell county builds and maintains all 911 road signs in house, these signs cost about $75.00 per sign. The county has over 1,130 named roads in Russell county, these consist of  primary, secondary and private roads.
